When in Glen Ellen, CA, visiting Schermeister Winery is a must! Founded in 2012 by Rob & Laura Schermeister, this gem is well worth the stop. Tucked away in the quaint Jack London Village, the spot may be small, but the experience is anything but that!
Laura shared her incredible story with me — how she ended up in CA, how she and Rob met, how this vision of a winery became a reality. She and Rob were very welcoming and it’s clear that they are a driven couple, determined to create and share world-class wines and experiences with everyone! After only an hour, I felt like I knew both of them for years!

I opted for the basic wine tasting, which included samples of the 2016 Hendricks Vineyard Rose of Syrah (Wow – can you say smells like Watermelon Jolly Ranchers anyone?!), the 2018 Salomon Vineyard Viognier (all tropical notes — I absolutely loved this wine!), and the 2014 Paladini Vineyard Pinot Noir. Rob is known for making superb Pinot Noirs, and this one did not disappoint. An unusually fuller-bodied wine, this Pinot Noir could stand out on its own or be perfectly paired with pretty much any meal. Definitely a bottle purchase you won’t regret!

But what sold me on this winery was the 2016 Scavenger Syrah. I can honestly say this is the best Syrah I’ve ever tasted. No joke! This wine is a co-fermented blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier and only 150 cases were made. And even better — 20% of all sales goes to International Bird Rescue. This wine has a bold body, but not overpowering. It has an incredible smoothness and balance from start to finish! To be enjoyed on its own or believe it or not, the tasty Indian food I had ordered from the winery’s neighbors. Get yourself a bottle before this one is gone!

Laura and Rob take great pride in what they do. They strive to provide not only amazing wines, but true uncorked moments around them. The winery is warm and inviting and a testament to their awesome partnership. They are one of the reasons I love doing what I do — bringing you adventures in wine, one glass at a time. Schermeister Winery will be a force to be reckoned with as the years go by. So don’t miss out on this hidden gem! You won’t be disappointed! I can’t wait for my next visit.
