Seems simple enough, right? But it’s the little things that can make your wine taste great or like something’s wrong with it.
TIP #1 – Can I Wash My Wine Glasses In A Dishwasher?
Absolultely! Both glass and crystal can be washed in a dishwasher, but it’s always a good idea to see if your glassware is dishwasher safe. Make sure that they are stable and spaced out, so they don’t clink during the wash cycle. Use less detergent than with a regular load and be sure that the dry cycle is on air dry and not a heat-dry setting. The hot dry setting can “bake on” detergent that hasn’t washed off.
TIP #2 – Isn’t Handwashing More Effective?
I would consider it just as good as using a dishwasher. Use very little detergent and hot water to wash and rinse. If you use the soap IN the glass bowl, be sure to rinse really well. Soap residue can really mess with the taste of your wine, leading you to believe the wine is bad when really it’s the glass.
Some people use special glass cleaners. But I don’t really think they’re necessary. Soap and hot water will do the trick. I also don’t like to use sponges or wine brushes, but some prefer them. I hold the glass under the bowl for stability and use either paper towel or my hand to wash the glass.
TIP #3 – What’s The Best Way To Dry Wine Glasses?
Microfiber towels! Use these to dry and polish your glasses. These towels are great because they don’t have lint and don’t leave streaks. Some people use flour sack towels for the same reasons.
Dry glasses immediately after washing (whether by hand or using a dishwasher) to avoid water spots. Be sure to cradle the bowl in one hand and wipe carefully with the other. Perfectly sparkly and clean wine glasses each time!
